Why Go in For Digital Scrapbooking?

“Digital scrapbooking” is a phrase you may well have heard. After all, this digital hobby is, to some extent, replacing the traditional art of scrapbooking. As our lives become increasingly automated and our pictures are now stored in terms of megabytes on disks rather than on Kodak paper in albums in a drawer, we simply have to adapt. It seems such a shame to have to give up the art of scrapbooking and memory keeping simply because we are stepping into the digital age. There is no need for that as Digital scrapbooking provides the alternative.

Whether it’s a set of photos or a screenshot of a news story, little snippets or basically anything that reminds you of a special moment or encapsulates something you love, it deserves a place in the scrapbook. Digital scrapbooking helps keeping such snippets and memories organised. Imagine being able to look back through your digital scrapbook after a month, six months, a year or even five years and being able to glance back through memories in a single click.

For some of us, scrapbooking is primarily for photographs capturing memories of the ones we love most. For others, it’s a place to store photos and snippets relating to a hobby you love or a particular topic area. Whatever it is you want to embark upon scrapbooking for, making it digital simplifies the process completely.

What’s great about using digital scrapbooking software is the fact that it’s not just a series of files on a desktop. The software can convert them into virtual books that you can ‘flick through’ on your screen. The choice of aesthetics and layouts makes it really simple to personalise and decorate your scrapbook and this gives it the real flavour of “traditional scrapbooking,” with all the convenience that computers offer. Computerised scrapbooking also has more flexibility in the text effects you can add and the way you can lay out your photos and other materials. Of course, some argue that there’s truly no replacing the feel of a physical scrapbook, and while this is, to some extent true, there are things you can do on digital scrapbooks that you can’t on the physical thing. Animated text effects, video embedding and a range of quick to apply templates are perks of the digital version of this favourite pastime.

Add to that the fact that the digital scrapbooking software often comes with a host of tutorials and is designed to be user friendly and what we have is a great way of storing memories.It’s a really cost effective way of storing the pictures and snippets which mean the most to you in a format that is easy to look back on and easier still to share with friends, family and loved ones. Let’s not let our photos and the way we proudly keep them go by the wayside just because of the computer revolution. Instead, we should be embracing the perks of computerising our scrapbooks and bringing this traditional hobby well and truly into the digital age.

Digital Scrapbooking – Why I Adore It

Digital scrapbooking relies on desktop editing and publishing technologies from layouts and embellishments to the very photos used for the process. The Internet provides the best access to various elements that can serve for the use of digital images in personal albums. There are people who prefer traditional activities copy-pasting photos into regular albums, yet, digital scrapbooking has increased in popularity over the recent years. The advantages that accompany our digital version of scrapbooks make quite a list:

-as you no longer need scrapbooking supplies, you can make savings ;
-you can send the pages you create to friends, online;
-the page elements allow for advanced adjustments and manipulation options;
-digital scrapbooking comes with a higher number of accessories;
-you put no stress on the environment;
-the pages do not deteriorate in time;
-it appeals to different categories of users.

Digital scrapbooking relies on a large number of visual elements. Computer layouts are very similar to regular paper layouts. You can create very rich albums by inserting backgrounds and wallpapers depending on the features of the web-based scrapbooking program. Moreover, the given elements and embellishments can be repositioned at will, with applications depending on every user.

Digital scrapbooking has hardly any limitations, because the finished product of your creativity can be printed and stored in paper format too. When you decide to print an album designed by digital methods, you should use some professional printing and binding services if you don’t have all the tools available at home. The first digital scrapbooking activities relied on digital photos uploaded on websites.

People generally prefer to conduct digital scrapbooking online to escape the trouble of downloading software programs and installing them on their personal computers. Users can create their digital albums online and then they can print them on demand, thus substituting for traditional scrapbooks. Thanks to digital technologies, scrapbooking makes the integration of pages and layouts much easier: albums look fresher and unique.

Digital scrapbooking is not too difficult, and you don’t have to be an Internet guru to create some nice personalized pages. The layouts are ready, and you just add several elements onto them. Plus, unlike traditional paper and glue albums, you have the chance to play with all sorts of patterns, styles, decorations and layouts. You can follow some step by step instructions for all the process, but that is really an easy part.

Finding the right title for your scrapbook page

Finding the Right Title for Your Scrapbook Page

If you are anything like me, you have gotten stuck for a title for your scrapbook page a time or two. The worst for me were the holiday pages – Christmas, Easter, Fathers Day, etc. Because I’m doing at least one page for each of them every year, I’m constantly trying to think of something new and interesting. It didn’t always come easily to me.

Then I found a solution that I hadn’t thought of before. A quote from a book can make a great title for your page, especially if that book or particular quote has significance to you. You can find some great examples of this at my store,  http://scrapbookingtales.mybisi.com. All of the pages use quotes from the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer as titles for the pages.

Once you begin looking at books for quotes to use, you may be surprised at the wide range of subjects and situations that are available. You would think that something like romance would be easily found, but with very little effort you can also find quotes about jobs, family relationships, friends, places, hobbies, and even weather. With a little looking on the internet, you can find a quote for almost any page you can imagine. In fact, you should not only be able to find a quote for every possible need, but several. Whether you like short and sweet or longer and more detailed, funny or serious, poetry or prose, you will have a variety of choices.

Your title quote could relate to the subject directly, such as a quote about marriage or love for a wedding page, but it could also relate indirectly. If you are doing a page about your best friend, you might want to use a quote from their favorite book. If you are doing a page about an ancestor, perhaps you could use a quote from a popular book from that time period. When doing a page about a child, you could include a quote from one of the books they read that year. A New Year’s resolutions page could include a quote from a book that you want to read in the coming year.

Quotes make great titles for any scrapbooking page. They are simple to find on the internet, can relate to just about any subject, and can add a new dimension to your page. The possibilities are limited only by your creativity. Happy scrapping!

Scrapbooking Tips – Journaling

The art of scrapbooking is based on story telling. While it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words; there is really no substitution for the effect that journaling adds to your pages. The written word can be informative, dynamic, pensive, rhetorical, comical…you get the picture! There are no specific rules but I do have some suggestions that may help you with journaling. Here are a few ideas for you to consider. * Let your ideas flow. Speak from your heart. Speak from your memory. * Try writing to your subject in conversational style. * Record your thoughts or what you believe are the thoughts of the subject. * Use the event name, date, time, place, etc. as your journaling. It is also a good idea to list the full names of those pictured in photos. Future generations will be appreciative. * Try providing a short caption for each photo. * Use callouts or speech bubbles with your photos to record your recall of conversation. * A series of descriptive words is a great way to convey emotion. Try incorporating an adjective using each of the letters of the name of the subject or theme of the page. * Have you ever thought about using quotes, poetry, or song lyrics on your pages? Be sure to give credit to the author or artist. * To include your own handwriting on your digital pages: Scan your handwritten journaling, save it as a JPG file, and import it to your digital program as an image. Journaling is an important element in scrapbooking. Try one or a combination of these suggestions on your next layout. The style or method you choose is not important but including journaling will add so much to your creations. You are telling a story that will be appreciated for years to come.

Computer-Aided Scrapbooking

Photographs are the basis for many themed scrapbooks as they are one of the best ways to remember a special event. Gone are the days of the 4 x 6 inch black and white photograph. Digital photography allows people to make copies of their photos and make them any size for their scrapbook albums. If you already have a computer, printer and digital camera, you are leaps ahead of other scrappers who do everything by hand.

If you have digital photos choose the photo that you want to use as the main object on your scrapbook page. The size and shape of this item will determine the layout of your page. Since this photo is the main focus of the page, it must be chosen first as everything else on the page will be determined by the size and shape of the photo.

Once you have chosen a photo for your album, print it the size you’d like it to be. Most people use specialized photographic computer paper, computer programs and ink to make the copies they want for their scrapbook. Check your favorite computer store for programs, paper, ink and printers that are appropriate for high-quality photographic prints. If you don’t want to make your own copies of the photos you can upload them to photo printing stores via the Internet. These stores will make prints to your exact specifications and post them back to you.

After you have chosen the focus of your scrapbook page, you may want to choose a mat to add emphasis to the theme and photo on your page. A mat functions as a mini frame to add depth to your scrapbook page. You may already have some mats around the house. You may have specialized cardstock or other sturdy types of paper to make a mat for the photo you have chosen, so simply cut it to size. Or you may want to use a mat that you already have, and print a photo to fit the size of the existing mat. There are many types of mats available for purchase if you don’t have anything to use. Choose a mat color that adds to the colors in the photo you are placing on your scrapbook page. But don’t choose a gaudy or overwhelming mat that detracts from the subject of the page.

Adobe Photoshop is a wonderful software program for scrappers. It is reasonably priced and easy to use once you get the hang of it. It allows a scrapper to add captions electronically to photos. Do you need to make some major changes in your photo? Photoshop can do that as well. Many of the functions of Photoshop are point and click, with most of the basic functions readily available on the toolbar.

One of the most popular functions of Photoshop is cropping. Cropping a picture or photo can be done either using hand scissors or using a computer program that will crop the photo for you. Cropping is used to shape a photo or eliminate portions of the photo. When you crop a photo on your computer you can change the shape and size of the photo you are copying and printing. Follow the program’s directions to point and click your photo to the shape and size you’d like. Cropping and other photographic program features can also be used to eliminate items or people you don’t want in your photos.

With a bit of practice, and patience, you will soon get the hang of using a computer to aid in your scrapbooking endeavors. And if you’re lucky enough to be a student, or have a student in the house, you can purchase your software at a much cheaper price.

Free Scrapbooking Layouts >> How to Create the Best Layout for Your Scrapbook

Creating the individual pages of your scrapbook is definitely the most exciting about the hobby. You get to choose pictures, images, items and other paraphernalia to put onto your page. However, with all the items, papers and letters that you want to include in your page, you usually end up confused. You don’t have to worry about that now, here are simple tips that you can keep in mind while starting to layout that page for your scrapbook.

Balance

Make sure your design has balance. If you have a large picture on the left page, make sure that it doesn’t look like it’s hanging when you put the other elements on your page. Also, if you would like to create a two page lay-out, evaluate the items on the pages and make sure that they compliment each other.

Items

Always make sure that you have at least one theme in your layout. Sometimes the items greatly affect the layout of your page. So be sure that they are related. Items definitely have some commonality. Always evaluate them before designing your page.

Crowding

It is best that every item on your layout is distinguishable. If you put too much on a single page, the layout will surely suffer. Be sure that items are just enough for a page. Managing the page for its layout will be easier if you only have enough items for the space.

Variations

Be sure to make variations in your layout. If you can, make a dummy set for all your layout designs and put them on a list. In that way, you can immediately distinguish the styles that you have used on your pages. A really interesting scrapbook is one that varies but maintains a general theme.

Flood yourself with samples

One of the best ways to learn a great layout style is to look for one. Busy yourself in browsing the internet and comparing your scrapbook to others. When you are flooded with samples of good layouts, you can be sure that your own style will come out naturally.

The best way that you can do this is invite your friends who have the same hobby to join you while you are making pages for your scrapbook. In this way, they can also help you out in deciding what layout to make.

Be sure to remember these things when you start your layout. It is still best to create a dummy before starting the real one. Just take a moment to look at your materials and be sure to ask for some comments before putting them on your pages.

Beginner Scrapbooking – How to Get Your Children Pay Attention to the Art of Scrapbook Making

Whatever you do in life that seem important to you, it is always necessary that you look at a means of memorizing this in the future. The simple reason for this is that this is a way in which you can always recall those good times spent together. This is the reason why the art of making scrapbooks has moved from a pastime to a job worthy of being paid for. One significant thing about creating scrapbooks is that this is a way of relieving nostalgic memories through the use of pictures. You can also use other items such as cloths and even tickets and make the most out of your scrapbook. The essence in all of these is to be able to relive these experiences as if you are just from experiencing them.

The importance of this art has led so many parents wanting to get their children involved in it. There are so many reasons for this. The first is that this is something that they easily do in the comfort of their homes and it is equally an art which they can enjoy when done with some of their peers.

One thing that is always important to parents is to help their children come up with and develop skills that can be economically benefiting to them in the future. This will definitely land them on the art of making scrapbooks. The art of making scrapbooks is a very creative art because it does not only bring out something beautiful from nothing, but it requires you to put in some form of imagination. Keep in mind that your imagination is what will allow others around you to find some real value in you and this will be of help to you in the future. This is also a way of letting children know that they must not ask for everything that they need and even if they should ask for everything, they will have to be enduring with their demands.

There are so many things that you should first of all reflect on ahead of tying to let your children into the art of scrapbook making. One thing you should know is that your kids must not look at things from the same angle as you do. For example, you may be looking at the art of making scrapbooks as something of utmost importance, but the outlooks of your kids may differ from this. For this reason, you should begin by making your children become interested in arts and crafts as a whole ahead of bringing them into the art of scrapbook making.

An extra thought should be geared toward where you will want them to carry out this art. You should know that as kids, they will often prefer to do most of their work on the floor and even on their beds. Therefore, the playroom should be a perfect place to teach them about scrapbook making. Remember that kids will not be very organized and will need enough room for their work. Some, and especially boys, would also need to work in secluded areas. But again, you must know that they will be using dangerous objects such as cutters and this will require that they work under your supervision.

Once you have surmounted most of these difficulties, then you are sure that investing in your kids in the arts of scrapbook making will be a rewarding venture. There are so many types of packages that would be required for the beginner. You can get these from any arts and craft shop. But you should know that it is good to bring your child along when making the selection. Remember that he or she is going to be the one using these tools. In most cases, it will be more economical if you design your own kits and offer it to your child.
