Digital Scrapbooking – 3 Great Reasons To Start Today!
If you’re a scrapbooker, you owe it to your craft to try digital scrapbooking!
It’s an easy way to expand and enhance your creativity in new and exciting ways. Some traditional scrapbookers are hesitant to “go digital” because it seems so different from what they’re used to.
But don’t fear – scrapbooking digitally, while it might take a little extra time to learn, is well worth the minimal effort. Plus, it’s not as if you have to become an expert digital scrapbooker overnight. Start small by making a simple, small digital photo album, then work your way up to a full-fledged storybook.
1. Saves you time. In the long run, once you learn it, digital scrapbooking will be a great timesaver. You can turn out wonderful looking keepsakes in no time – keepsakes that you’ll be proud to share. And when you do share them, you can email links to your photo creations.
The beauty of digital scrapbooking is that all the resources you need are at your fingertips – literally. And if you want to scan in a special design, poem, writing style or any other embellishment, you can. Then, what you’ve scanned will available to use again and again.
2. Saves you money. Of course, you love paper, scissors and glue scrapbooking. But all three cost money – especially the paper embellishments and albums. And of course, you are just brimming over with creativity, which can also get expensive when you try to bring all your ideas to life.
With digital scrapbooking, all you need is your computer, your photos, some artwork to scan, backgrounds and layouts to work with … and voila, you can have a lovely keepsake for a fraction of the cost! And when you consider the money you’ll save on gas driving to and from the crafts stores – well, that alone may make it worth your while to learn how to scrapbook digitally.
3. You can scrapbook more. Combine Nos. 1 and 2 above and you get to scrapbook more than you ever thought possible! Rather than spending hours on just one paper and scissors scrapbook that has to accommodate a whole vacation’s worth of photos, you can create individual scrapbooks for each person who went on the vacation with you!
Rather than spend time driving from store to store looking for materials, you can simply upload your photos, scan in your embellishments and quickly create a thing of beauty you and others will cherish for a lifetime.
Of course, digital scrapbooking will never replace traditional scrapbooking. No one would want that to happen. The beautiful scrapbooks you create with your own two hands are special, unique and hold an enormous amount of value.
But digital scrapbooking does have its place in the scrapbooking world. And as you learn new techniques and tricks digitally, that’s sure to spark your creativity with your traditional scrapbooking.
So go ahead – give digital scrapbooking a try today. And get ready to be surprised by all the fun you’re going to have!

Where To Learn Beginner Scrapbooking Techniques
Beginner scrapbookers have many resources available to learn how to scrapbook. scrapbooking is one of the fastest growing hobbies, and options for learning this craft come in many different places. Before considering which method is best for you, consider your time and money commitment, as well as, your goals for scrapbooking.
Are you just looking to make attractive pages for your family to enjoy and preserve your photographs and memories? Maybe you want to learn scrapbooking for a new hobby you can share with others. scrapbooking can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.
Your local craft store is a great resource to learn beginner scrapbooking. Some craft stores specialize in scrapbooking, and their staff can help you choose basic tools and supplies to get you started. Many of these stores offer classes on the latest techniques. These classes often allow you to try out new tools and see how others approach their scrapbook pages. You might also take a project class that allows you to complete an entire album.
scrapbooking classes vary in cost, but most are quite reasonable. They usually provide all the tools and materials necessary, which make them a great way to try out this hobby with little financial investment. You will need to bring several photographs to use on your page layouts. Teachers are experienced and enthusiastic. They are trained to teach all levels of scrapbooking techniques and can answer any questions you might have about this hobby to help you decide if scrapbooking is right for you. Don’t be surprised if you see more experienced scrapbookers in these classes. Some people will take them just for the social aspect of the class and for new ideas on how to use basic techniques more effectively.
To find a class in your area, check with the large craft stores, as well as your local scrapbooking stores. Most offer classes with convenient schedules, and many offer classes that can be started any time.
Another option is to learn beginner scrapbooking in your own home. Direct sales companies, like Creative Memories and Close to My Heart, have consultants that will come to your home and give a class on basic scrapbooking. Much like a Tupperware party, you invite your friends to your home for a lesson. The consultant will teach the basic philosophy behind scrapbooking, as well as, how to choose supplies and tools, and how to design a simple page. You and your friends will usually make a 2-page layout with materials supplied by the consultant and photos you bring from home. Consultants may or may not charge for the lesson. This usually depends on the cost of the supplies used for the pages. The lesson usually ends with an opportunity to purchase that company’s products.
scrapbooking magazines are full of information on basic techniques and beginner tips. In the United States, most bookstores sell a variety of scrapbooking magazines. The most popular magazines are Creating Keepsakes, Simple Scrapbooks, Memory Makers and Scrapbooks, Etc. Buy a single issue of each magazine first. Each has a slightly different slant on scrapbooking. For example, Simple Scrapbooks focuses on quick, easy pages. Once you find one that seems to match your style, buy the annual subscription which is always more cost effective than buying single newsstand copies.
Many craft stores offer crop nights that can be another way to learn scrapbooking. Crops bring together groups of scrapbookers to work on their pages together. Basically, they are scrapbooking parties. The store will often charge a nominal fee and provide refreshments for the evening. Many will allow you to use their tools during the crop, as well. This is a great way to try out more expensive tools, like die cut machines and cutters. You could even invite your scrapbooking friends to your home for a crop. Crops allow everyone to share techniques with each other and provide beginner scrapbookers with tips and ideas.
One more option to learn basic techniques is to purchase an album kit. Many album kits come complete with all the supplies you need to make a scrapbook. They provide detailed instructions and sometimes even basic color and design layout theory. However, to complete the album you will need to buy your own tools, such as, scissors and adhesive.
Once you’ve learned beginner scrapbooking, remember to practice your techniques often. The more pages you make the better you will become at designing layouts. As you master the basics, you can use the same resources above to find more advanced tips and techniques.

Digital Scrapbooking: is This System for You?
Digital artistry is making its way into the mainstream; so is the digital album. Certainly, we possess some understanding of digital art, but what about the digital scrapbook? Is this identical with digital art?
The two are both similar and opposite in numerous ways but we are not here to examine thoroughly their differences and similarities. We are here to focus on the digital scrapbooking as an additional source to the traditional scrapbook creation. Traditional scrapbooks are created by hand alongside materials such as papers, pens, letter cut outs, adhesives, and other various embellishments you can think of. The chief axiom is this; to produce a wonderfully embroidered page that would express a better message than simply a plain photograph.
Digital scrapbooking works on a similar assumption as well. You produce one of a kind pages in addition to accoutrements to embellish the personal message you hope to address and express.
What sets the two apart is the way of attaining your expression. As mentioned, traditional scrapbooking uses material such as papers, pens, letter cut outs, adhesives, and other embellishments. Digital scrapbooking, on the other hand, uses computer graphics that replace these customary materials. You may say it is harder to work on the page lay out on the computer than on the existing page (traditional scrapbook) . But, to be honest, the work is nearly the same.
Take the following for example:
The traditional scrapbook will work on a background or appearance (on occasion called a template), pictures, texts, and embellishments. The procedure goes similar this: you place the pictures on the background, place various embellishments of your type, and pen some texts.
The digital scrapbook will work on software with all the handy digital embellishments and texts. You possess scanned pictures to be placed on a selected background. Put different texts and add extra pattern. Then, with some additional reworking on the colors and borders, you have created a scrapbook page.
(Talking of software. There are some software that would let you produce digital scrapbooks. These are Microsoft… Digital Image Pro, Photoshop … Elements or Adobe… Photoshop … Ulead PhotoImpact … or Jasc Paint Shop Pro… , to name a few.)
Oftentimes, it is tremendously easier to make a digital scrapbook than a traditional one. This is because software that lets you produce digital scrapbook which is designed to use templates for texts and backgrounds, not to mention the editing tools you require. These features make it easier to produce one unique page.
Downloadable templates are readily accessible over the internet to expand up your choices on text, embellishments, and background. This is different then the traditional scrapbook where every item is yours to create; from the background to the cutting of the embellishment.
To further demonstrate how does a digital page is created, here are the steps to follow:
1) Produce a new image from a empty canvas
2) Determine the magnitude of the page you will use.
3) Enter the settings you desire to adapt.
4) Add the photo – Photos help decide the color scheme of the design, hence, you may hope to see primarily what depiction you going to use before determining the mat of the canvas. To add a photo, you should first secure one on a file. You can either scan pictures or take them from your digital cameras.
5) Produce the background – Now that you have a decided canvas and photo, it is time for you to choose your background. Here, the choices are limitless. You can download images from the internet or use your photos to be the background itself. You can adapt the texture of the background to parallel the theme you desire to accomplish.
6) Produce the photo mat – Photo mats let the background and the photo meet on a certain point.
7) Add the text and embellishments – Ready made texts and embellishments are one good attribute of digital scrapbooking software. This helps you to put vital touches quick and easy.
Affix different finishing touches – Final editing is as significant as grouping everything in order. Make use of built in features such as shadows, emboss, effects, and others. This would aid your page look more engaging as it highlights whatever you desire to be highlighted.

Creating Your First Scrapbook
Your honeymoon in Hawaii was simply an occasion made in heaven. You’ve just spent 2 weeks in the most beautiful tropical paradise you’ve ever been to, and now you’d like to capture those memories in one handy, convenient place. Your friends are suggesting that you start a scrapbook album, but you don’t even know how to make one! Scrapbook albums can be a lot of fun to make, even if you have never tried one before. So how exactly do you make scrapbook albums? Let’s look at the process, step-by-step.
First, the basics. Scrapbook albums come in a variety of materials, sizes, and styles. The primary step in creating scrapbook albums is choosing the album itself. Some of the costly ones usually are made of leather. But since important albums, like your honeymoon scrapbooks, are valuable, however, you may feel like selecting a high-quality and hard-wearing leather album for yours, so don’t scrimp on it if you can help it! Cloth-covered scrapbook albums are also a good alternative, however. The fabric used in these albums is usually book cloth, so you can rest assured that it is strong. Cheap scrapbook albums are also obtainable, if you want reasonably-priced ones to begin with. These are typically made of heavy cover stock, plain or covered with paper.
Standard scrapbook albums have a utilizable page size of 12×12 inches. The scrapbook album itself may measure 13×14 inches or more, but part of that is the book’s spine. Some scrapbook albums can get bigger, as big as 18×20 inches. As a beginner, you may feel like choosing your first album from standard-sized scrapbooks, given that the majority of scrapbook supplies are prepared to that standard.
The assortment of scrapbook album designs has also flourished together with the growth of scrapbooking‘s popularity. Plain cover scrapbook albums now come in many colors. Some scrapbook albums may have a military-themed cover, while others might have a fun cartoonish theme, with popular cartoon characters embellished on the cover. Tropical scrapbook albums, which you might prefer for your Hawaii honeymoon, would be gorgeous in scrapbook albums with a vivid red or blue Hibiscus-patterned cloth cover.
Once you have selected the scrapbook album, you now have to arrange the pictures and memorabilia you will apply. Pay attention to the subject matter of each piece in addition to the colors. Honeymoon scrapbook albums already have an overall theme – the honeymoon! Your subsequent step will be to settle on sub-themes for each 2-page spread. For example, you might have a theme of your arrival at Hawaii, with approach photos of the island from the air. This theme could also include photos taken upon landing.
Outline the rest of your photos, deciding on a subject matter for each spread. You may want some legroom for notes and other elements you would like to insert later, so don’t give in to the temptation of packing your scrapbook pages with photos. You might furthermore decide to add a bit of torn paper underneath the photos to set them off from the backdrop. On some pages, you may fancy placing a paper frame around the photos.
Whewn the photos are all arranged and affixed to your liking, it’s time to add your notes, or “journalizing”. These notes are nothing more than captions to give details about the photos in your album. You may want to cherish a special memory of what was said when a certain photo was taken – or a comment about what happened right away before or after. Your comments can be added on little pieces of paper that are added to scrapbook albums, much like how photos are added.
Embellishments, charms, stickers, and other small pieces that add interest and personality to your scrapbook will be the final touch in creating scrapbook albums. You can pick out the decorations and embellishments you’ll put on your scrapbook depending on the theme you’re using. Honeymoon scrapbook albums might include small hearts or kisses. Hawaiian scrapbook albums, or other tropical scrapbook albums, might include small sandals or seashells.

Photoshop Basics Tutorial To Create Amazing Digital Scrapbooks
Creating digital scrapbooks are easier than ever due to the power of digital technology and computers. Many software editing programs are on the market that turn your ordinary photos into extraordinary masterpieces yet there is one program that stands out from all the others. Adobe Photoshop is undoubtedly the most popular photo editing software program on the market today and is used by amateurs and professionals alike.
You may be curious as to why professional photographers need a photo editing software program. Included in Photoshop is everything that a photographer would need to make sure every photo that was taken is incredible. Photoshop is, in essence, a a digital photo lab where you can edit and manipulate your photos to make them look their best.
The software is somewhat easy to learn. However, if you are a first time user the program you will want to play around and get yourself comfortable with the desktop and various tools. There are various tutorials available over the internet that can get you started on the basics if you feel uncomfortable with what you are seeing on your screen but I will attempt to make it easy for you.
There are four basic areas in Adobe Photoshop. At the top you see your menu bar, below that is your toolbar, the toolbox is located on the left side of your screen and the palettes are located on the right. Once you have an idea where things are all you need to do is hold your mouse over each toolbar and toolbox item and you should see a screen tip appear telling you the name of that tool.
One of the great things about this software is that it will take photos taken from an average camera and you can use the tools to make them look like they were taken with the most expensive camera on the market. With an ordinary 3 megapixel camera you can take average pictures then use Photoshop to create a masterpiece. Such is the power of this program.
Even professional photographers encounter problems with their photos. Red eye is the most common phenomenon which is nearly impossible to prevent. Usually your photo would be ruined if it had red eye on it. Fortunately, with Photoshop you have all the tools you need to remove the red eye and the viewer would never know the difference. You can find a variety of tutorials online that can help you create amazing eyes, or you can simply play around with the software on your own.
Shaky hands and blurry photos are another problem with many photos. Photoshop contains sharpening tools that are able to remove these errors. On the other hand, if you like the blurry effect there are tools included for that as well.
Dull colors and lighting problems are no longer a problem as Photoshop can take nearly any problem that seemed insurmountable and fix it with a few clicks of the mouse. Is your photo missing someone? Simply remove that person from a different photo and paste them where you want them to go. Now, this is a bit more tricky and requires a bit more experimentation, however it can be accomplished with Photoshop. Using Adobe Photoshop, you can be sure that you will be able to turn those ordinary looking photos in to something magical.

scrapbooking Captures Precious Moments and Memories
In my opinion, this is the most wonderful thing about scrapbooking. The best way to explain it is with a quick story.
When I first started scrapbooking, my grandma was the person in my family most interested in my layouts. Every time she came over we would look through them together and she would point out the things she liked the most.
She was so interested that I finally decided to make a scrapbook with her. We put in photos of us together along with mementos of all the special times we could think of. It took a few weeks to finish, but we had a great time.
Two short months later she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and quickly slipped away. I’m so thankful that we were able to make that scrapbook together. Because now, whenever I miss her, I can just look through that scrapbook and smile at all the precious memories.
